Club projects

Major club projects
University Based Club project
Ra’ey RCT club so far conducted various university based projects. For the past five years. Since the club established in Sidist kilo campus, the university based projects are concentrated in the university compound. And the club tries to identify major problems around the campus and work on that, for instance, graduating students mainly have financial problems in covering the expense for printing and copying their final senior essay and the club identify those students and try to cover their expenses by raising some funds. Apart from that, the club has organized blood donation events in the compound in collaboration with other clubs in the compound.
The other project activity the club use to takes place is, to help visually impaired students in exam times. That is, these students face challenges at exam times in getting volunteers who can help them to take the exam, and the club members volunteer to help these students.

Community Based Projects
The members of Ra’ey RCT club, are not only students, those who already have graduated also remain to be members of the club. This has obliged the club to conduct community service activities and widen its area of activity to community service projects.
One of its major ongoing projects the club carried out is, to support a nearby orphanage called Hana, both materially and mentally. That is, the Rotaractors at the campus tutor these orphans in their shelter after school every 3-4 days a week and help them with their education. Moreover, the club members support these children by celebrating major holiday’s eve with them, by giving them refreshments and other supportive educational materials and clothes.
The other project on hand is, to organize an interact club in Cathedral School. And currently we are recruiting the students and organizing a training induction program so that they can be able to familiarize themselves with leadership and community service activities and play an active role in their communities and also to try to establish contact with other interact clubs in the district to make a cultural exchange and learn their diverse experiences.

Rotary youth leadership award Ethiopia 2007

RYLA in Ethiopia for the first time held on may 25th-27th for three days in ambo at the backyard of ambo hotel. 89 rotaractors participate in the training splited in to ten groups with their respective objectives to achieve for the success of the program. All rotaract clubs have participated in this event both in theory and practice leadership development training. And most of the rotaractors have found it rewarding and everyone was able to draw a valuable lesson. There were about ten groups who are assigned to handle all the activities and it actually give an impetus to practically give a chance for all the rotaractors to work, collaborate and be effective in a group and it also give a chance to know each other more and develop sense of oneness, besides the rotaractors during their practical leadership training they were being capable of having connection with the local community by doing different activities and their was a very tight closure which enable us to closely came in contact with the how the people live and lead their life and also try to understand their underlying problems and its symptoms which actually gave rise to initiate projects in those areas.
The RYLA program didn’t end only on the three day training event; rather there was also other successive program following after the return from ambo, that is like the visit to the ‘muya’ which create an eye opening moment in all of us in getting to know how the traditional craft and weaving takes place and its complicated and artistic nature of doing had made beautiful artifacts and cultural closings which made us all to appreciate it and helps us to change our attitudes towards our own original historical way of making unique way clothes and craft materials which can be further backed by new technological industries to transcend the art to the rest of the world.
The final phase of this program was the award giving ceremony. It was a very spectacular and beautiful ceremony which was accompanied by beautiful cultural clothes wore by the attendants. Among all groups the camping group win the major award because of its risky job though all other groups have equally contributed for the program and everyone got an award and it finally wind up with warm traditional cultural music; hence it was generally a very successful and worthwhile even for all of us and ra’ey rotaract club is proud to be part of that.

The 82nd district conference and assembly rotary international district 9200 16th-19th may 2007 Kampala Uganda

• The annual 82nd district conference held in Uganda, Kampala from may 16th-19th 2007. the very purpose of this meeting has made the environment and the future the focal issue, at a place called munyonyo in speke resort hotel.

• At the first opening session of the meeting some brief introductions were given about our environment. Specifically the environmental hazards has mentioned for instance, the increase in temperature of seas has resulted in immense hurricanes the one which we have recently witnessed in Louisiana and other parts of the world. Further, the disappearance of lakes, like lake Chad and losses of species and genesis in relation with vectors emerging infectious diseases and the rise of the ocean level could be the major signs of the global heating.

• The other issue which comes in relation with environment is population growth and among the points which helps to stabilize the people is:
 By women education
 Women empowerment
 Easy access to contraceptive
Hence, as its being said making a difference is not an option rather an obligation and this is one of the major concern of rotary international.

• On the second day of the conference, the Rotarians and rotaractors issues were separately dealt in different meeting halls.
• Consequently, the district rotaract representative Allan jingo, the district secretary, Sarah and the financial report has presented for the district rotaractors.

• DRR Allan jingo addresses the rotaract distict assembly in such way;

1) The need of new administrative structure at district and country level. in way to create additional positions like;
 Project coordinator
 to create partnerships among clubs so that the clubs avoid working in isolation.

• The ADRR’ s its respective clubs are required to have
- training
- Rotaract extension programs
- Publicity
- Visibility
2)Establishing a club directory and project database.
3) To create a mailing list on (yahoo group) and website i.e. www.rotaract9200.org to facilitate the communication.
4) To arrange training seminars
5) to have a direct contact through official visit of the DRR.
6) To use a reporting templates to report

• The challenges so far:
 Visibility at club level.
 Capacity enhancement problems.
 Documenting the club activities.
 Balance of membership
 Financial transparency
. Paying the annual dues of the rotaract clubs was one of the most burning and controversial issues raised at the conference.
As we have perceived most clubs didn’t pay their dues. for this reason PDG Hatim have dedicated $2000 to reduce the club termination.

• In the contrary, the Ethiopian rotaract clubs have all paid their annual dues and DRR Allan jingo is thankful for that.
The rotaract district assembly in nutshell,
. Rotaractors enjoyed the 19th district assembly before moving t buziga country resort for the DRR’s societal party.
. The DRR mentioned some of the successful projects carried out by rotaractors in Kenya that is the donation of books of interact quiz and debate of rotaract club of kisumu. The VCT project and formation of central football league and dancing competition by rotaract club of Nairobi.

• The rotaract club of Malindi partnered with the city council of Malindi in planting flowers.
• In Tanzania the carrying out of blood donation and visiting juvenile remand prisons.
• In Ethiopia also blood donation and lending a hand to the hospital of mentally retarded
• In Uganda rotaract club of lukuli hosted the R.I president bill boyd, the rotaract clubs of kyambogo and rubaga partnered in ‘mwekume’ rotaract club.
• Jinja held the first founders ball in the district. Finally the DRR Allan jingo concluded by calling the clubs to share
New vision.
. As it can be portrayed from the mentioned projects Ethiopia could have presented number of successful projects achieved by different clubs so far, however as a result of miscommunication and lack of documentation our projects didn’t get recognition. Hence their needs to be a established network of communication. so that, we can best be able to share and learn from other projects done by other clubs.

The Ethiopian patriot association

On April 19th our club went to Ethiopian patriots association in order to assist on technical issues of organizing the patriots historical museum which comprises various astonishing archives, photos of well known patriots and distinct kinds of tools they had used to combat the invaders from different directions and which help Ethiopia to stay as free from colonization.
Though, this museum has immense significant historical archives because of lack financial support from governmental and non governmental organizations the historical materials are not preserved well, it requires a proper housing and furnishing, the pictures has to put in board in proper manner and the others tools also need proper placing so that it can best be protected and to pass this examplinary history for the coming generation. As a result our sponsoring club of east has plan to help the association in mean while as a rotaract our club raey is also willing to assist in everyway it can.
